Simone Martini’s fresco in Cappella di San Martino, Lower Church of San Francesco, Assisi depicts a scene of the Miracle of the Resurrected Child. The image depicts a woman holding a dead child in her arms while begging a Saint to help her. Surrounded by a group of onlookers, the Saint kneels in prayer and the child returns to life, to the astonishment of the crowd. Many of the onlookers join the Saint in prayer, others seems concerned or confronted by the experience. The knight in the blue, the man depicted in this cropped image, raises his eyebrows and curls his lips down in a sceptical disbelief. Another knight standing next to him frowns in disapproval of the blue-hatted knight’s reaction.
