Anguissola (c. 1530–1625), also know as Angussola or Anguisciola was an Italian Renaissance painter, born in Cremona, Lombardy. She painted many self-portraits and family scenes. This painting called ‘Self-portrait at the Easel’ is currently held at Lancut Palace, Poland. Sofonisba Anguissola depicts herself painting a devotional panel of the Madonna and Child. She wears a smooth dark habit with a white high-necked blouse. The painter stares directly at the viewer of the painting, while the Mary and Jesus stare at each other, their noses almost touching.
