Creator of the image: Jean-Pierre Jeunet Date of the image creation: 2001 Medium: Film Encounter depicted: Audrey Tautou as Amélie Poulain responds to Nino Quincampoix dressed as a skeleton The film 'Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain' tells the quirky romantic story of a shy waitress. She intervenes into the lives of others, attempting to improve them whilst covering up her own isolated existence. One day, Amélie realises that she is attracted to a quirky young man who collects discarded passport photographs. His name is Nino Quincampoix and Amélie follows him around the Paris in a whimsical, playful manner. In this scene, Amélie goes on a carnival ghost-train ride where Nino works. Dressed as a skeleton, Nino attempts to frighten the anonymous lonely passenger, emitting a 'wooohhh' sound. He touches the side of her face with his skeletal hand, and Amélie keeps her eyes ahead, before closing them, overcome by intimacy. There is something simultaneously sweet and ineffably erotic about this scene. Eventually, Amélie gathers the courage to directly confront Nino, and they proceed to begin a proper romance.
